7 Breast Cancer Symptoms in Menopausal Women
All menopausal women don’t necessarily develop breast cancer. But the risk is high. As women age, their risk of developing the condition increases. This article discusses seven breast cancer symptoms to watch out for.
1. Nipple discharge
Any type of nipple discharge isn’t normal, and it can indicate breast cancer. This is especially true in the case of menopausal women. If one notices that they have a bloody or even clear discharge, it is time to contact the doctor as such signs suggest breast cancer. Even a nipple discharge of another color could be a symptom.
2. Tenderness and pain
Breast tenderness and pain might be normal in menopausal women. However, these can also be a sign of breast cancer. This occurs due to changes in hormone levels during menopause. If one experiences these symptoms during menopause, they should speak to a doctor as it can point to early breast cancer, especially if accompanied by a prickly feeling.
3. Lump in the breast or underarm
Doctors usually tell menopausal women that their breasts may feel lumpier due to hormonal changes. However, if one notices that the lump in their breast or your underarm remains no matter what, it may be a cause of concern. In such a situation, it is best to get the breasts examined by a doctor.
4. Indented area in the breast
This is not normal in menopausal women, so they should always be self-examining their breasts. If one notices an indented or flat area on the breast, it could be a tumor. This is especially dangerous as one cannot see it physically or feel it. Such signs must be reported to a doctor immediately.
5. Changes in nipple
Many changes can occur to a woman’s breasts during menopause. However, some changes can be indicators of breast cancer. If one notices nipple changes, such as sores or dimpled nipples, it can mean breast cancer. If one’s nipples start to itch, they pull inward, or if they burn for no reason, it can also be a sign of the condition.
6. Physical changes in the breast
Menopause brings about many physical changes due to estrogen levels. Some of the changes can also be symptoms of breast cancer. For example, the change in temperature, size, or texture of one’s breast can indicate breast cancer. One should get themselves checked when this happens.
7. Swelling in the armpit or collarbone
One of the symptoms of breast cancer is swelling in the collarbone or armpit area. This usually means that the breast cancer has spread to either of the two regions. If one feels they have unusual swelling in either of the two areas, it’s time to get it examined. This is not a common symptom of menopause and can indicate breast cancer in its early stages.
